AW11 From MAC

Debbie, Senior Make-Up Artist at MAC is back with her top tips for AW11…

It’s August already and hard to believe that we are heading towards the winter season. This usually means a re-think of the contents of your makeup to reflect the Autumnal shades and trends. A task for most of us that can be quite confusing….. “What are the trends? Can I actually wear them?”I hear you ask!

Yes… Everyone can wear them. The key to doing so is keep it simple. Here is my guide to creating an easy way of wearing the key looks of the season.

Modernist Trend

Give your makeup a nod to the 60′s with huge fluttery lashes. Think Brigitte Bardot meets Kate Moss. To create this effect got for a mascara that has a big brush that will coat every single lash from root to tip. Add texture to your make-up to give a sleek and modern feel. A dab of a clear, non sticky face gloss on eye lids, brow bone and cheeks will do the trick.

Key products: MAC Opulash Bad Bad Black Mascara, MAC Gloss Texture

Tough Love

Think “boy meets girl” make-up. It still looks gorgeous but has a slightly masculine edge. A simple way to do this is by giving the eye brow more definition and a straighter shape with a brow pencil a shade lighter than your natural hair colour. Also take a natural or neutral makeup and give it a powerful edge with a dynamic red lip. Think precisely applied in a clean, crisp colour that will give your look some attitude.

Key Products: MAC Brow Liners, MAC Lipstick in Lady Danger

Disco-tech

Give your make-up a decadent edge and a touch of 70′s with colour. Imagine your heading to Studio 54 and want to add a pop of colour to eyes and lips using a strong and subtle version of the same colour. I have seen shades of pink being used a lot backstage with a wash on the eyes and a strong lip or vice versa. Eyes can also have an exaggerated touch just simply by adding some fine glitter. Create your own “disco ball” inspired look by pressing one or two shades of glitter on top of your usual eye make-up.

Key products: MAC Eye Shadows in Sushi Flower, Passionate and Pink Freeze, MAC Lipglass in Pink Poodle or Cultured, MAC Reflects Glitter

Amber Gris

A beautiful trend that incorporates all neutral tones from warm ambers and ochres to cool khaki and grey shades. The key to this is wear one of each together on two different features. I love a cool veil of colour across the eye lid and complimented with a warm creamy lip or vice versa.

Key products: MAC Eye Shadows in Copperplate, Coquette (both cool) or Soba and Texture (both warm), MAC Lipstick in Freckletone or Viva Glam 5 (warm) MAC Lipglass in Chai or Spirited (cool)

So pick your trend and add one or two key items to your usual makeup. Be brave and let yourself have piece of AW11 catwalk action.

As always please post any comments and questions below and we’ll get them answered for you…
