Acid Brights

Every spring and autumn I try to pick a few keys trends I like and whittle them down to a few key items for my shopping list. If they’re something you especially love, you will get your wear out of them and continue to merge them with next season’s must haves. So this season I’ll be mixing my jeggings, nude tanks, and pretty but oversized knitwear with my favourite trend: brights! Vuitton, Versus and Gucci mixed and clashed bright colours, but I think it’s more chic (and kinder on your purse!) to stick to one bright colour and make a statement, like the hot pink maxi skirt at Jil Sander, which was teamed with a plain white tee and… that was it!

I’m keen to get a bright bag or pair of flats to wear to lectures or shopping, and maybe a bright skirt or oversized vest to wear on more dressed-up days. An amazing pair of acid heels would be perfect with my endless collection of LBDs for a night out! If you team something so loud with your everyday wears then you are bang on trend and can focus on your hair and makeup more- something key in my everyday look. A bright lipstick will be fab with your bright key item, but maybe try a hot pink lip with a coral skirt, or a chilli coloured lipgloss with pink flats. Matching may push you into a dated ‘brights with black trousers’ look often seen in the office. Keep it chic with loud brights and soft nudes or starched white tees. Filling your wardrobe with sophisticated basics from COS and Topshop with give you limitless options and maintain a high quality look in more flattering fabrics.

If you want to dip your toes, try loud accessories – but stick to one. A statement necklace or chunky bangle will make enough impact if they’re so bright. Next time you’re In the Bullring, look out for all the new brights- a simple way to get back into colour as the sun comes out, and to cheer up your mood when it’s hiding behind April showers!
